The 10 Armageddon Paintings are a last prophetic remnant from the last Battle of Megiddo (Armageddon).

The hands (of Barbara Lady Brassey) that painted the 10 Armageddon Paintings - are the hands that held the bullets. By a miracle, the bullets were never used. The battle was won and paved a way for Israel's re-birth.

Since then, Armageddon has been quiet. But, wars and revolutions all around the Middle East will bring the word, 'Armageddon' to our news headlines, toward final battles at the end of time and, of Israel.

The paintings raise prophetic questions. Are we ready to meet our Maker? Which side will the Rus - Russia, the brave people of the far north - take? What is the destiny of Russia and her ancient, revived Orthodox Church? "Blessed are the Peacemakers..." (Matthew 5v9)

The Story Behind the Paintings

The Artist

Painter Barbara Lady Brassey with one of her artworks

Barbara Lady Brassey

Barbara Lady Brassey (1911–2010) married Col. Campbell Westmoreland in 1934 and studied with Artists: Bernard Adams, Graham Sutherland, G.E. Lodge, Lionel Edwards and won a silver medal at the Royal Academy. Her works were exhibited in London, Paris, America and South Africa.

In 1939, Col. Westmoreland led a British Army Battalion, in Palestine. The first 'Intifada' or ‘National Jihad’ waned after he marched his men from Caesarea to face a hostile army in a valley at Megiddo (Armageddon). He lined his men up on the ground, in a single line, with their rifles.

On the flat roof of a building at the end, he put his best ‘Tommy’ with a machine gun. Outnumbered and short of men, he asked Lady Barbara to hold the bullets to feed the machine gun, as a small British force faced thousands of men with rifles. The bullets were not used due to a miracle. The same thought entered thousands of men’s minds at the same time – ‘it was not worth dying for dust under a hot sun.’ Suddenly, the whole Jihadist army turned and marched away, without a shot fired.

Right place, wrong time in history! Hostilities abated in World War II. If that part of Palestine had fallen to a cohesive, organised Jihadist army in 1939, no Jewish refugees could have passed through Haifa or Tel Aviv sea ports in the 1940's, let alone enough to enable Israel’s re-birth in 1948. This last Battle of Armageddon helped to pave a way for modern Israel. In thanks to God, for such a miracle, left behind, are these paintings.

The Paintings

Later in life, Barbara asked God to forgive her sins, gave her life to Jesus Christ and worked in Prison Ministry. At age 98, she went to be with Her Lord. 10 Armageddon paintings and plaques are the legacy of her life: ‘The Christian Gospel holds the answer!’ Why? Because Jesus Christ rose from the dead. No other prophet or man ever came back from the dead. Then, after Jesus breathed on His disciples, the Spirit of the Living God was released to mankind.

Hands that painted the Paintings are the Hands that held the Bullets in a Battle of Armageddon, preceding Israel’s re-birth in 1948. Not a shot was fired. God (or something) intervened. A battle was won in thousands of men’s minds in a prophetic picture of God intervening with huge power in the Battle of Armageddon at the end of time and, of Israel, maybe also won without men firing a shot.

These images do not focus on war and pain because Armageddon is a warning about hell at the end of our lives, when we go to meet our Maker. The Paintings point to God loving us enough to send His only Son to die on a Cross, rise from the dead then, ascend to heaven - so we can turn from our sins, give our lives to Jesus Christ, be baptised and receive God’s Spirit - and live forever.

Megiddo

Torment and Loneliness of Hell by Barbara Lady Brassey

‘Torment and Loneliness of Hell’

Megiddo appears 12 times in the Old Testament dating back 8,000 years. Tel, Har or Hill Megiddo is formed by re-building settlements on one spot. It is Armageddon in Greek with great strategic importance guarding a narrow pass on the ancient Egypt-Assyria trade route. Excavations reveal 25 layers of ruins at Megiddo, built up over 35 centuries.

At Megiddo in 1482 BC, Egypt defeated Canaan, leaving a first account of a major war in antiquity. In 1200 BC a prophetess, Deborah led Israel to defeat the Canaanites; Israel’s Judge, Gideon defeated the Midianites. In 1004 BC, the Philistines defeated Israel, killing King Saul; in 609 BC, Egypt defeated Judah, killing King Josiah. Battles of Armageddon (Mount of Slaughter) over centuries engaged: Israel, Egypt, Persians, Greeks, Druze; Crusaders, Arabs and Turks. It is the most fought over place on earth.

The 1917 Balfour Declaration supported returning the Jews to Israel. Then, General Allenby’s British Allied troops defeated the Turks in the 1918 Battle of Megiddo. Jewish people believed the British Mandate supported a Jewish State. That led to Jewish migration from the 1920’s onwards to Israel. (In 1917, Jerusalem was freed without a shot fired, when General Allenby took the city on foot, out of respect, from the Jaffa Gate)

In filmed interviews, Lady Brassey told how she held the bullets at a 1939 Battle of Megiddo, also without a shot fired. British Army records confirm HC Westmoreland 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment posted Palestine 1938-39. Civil war and Jihad revolt led to Jewish and British casualties. The Battalion was posted to towns like Caesarea and Acre using the RAF and Police dogs to curb snipers, bombs and sabotage. Westmoreland received gallantry medals (Palestine 1939-45) and was posted to Malta with a unique distinction of leading his Battalion in both World Wars.

Today, Megiddo Junction is a mountain crossroad linking Haifa to the West Bank and the north to the south of Israel. It overlooks the coastal plain and Jezreel Valley, with a bus terminal and prison, under which is the Holy Land’s oldest Christian church ruin. Megiddo Kibbutz occupies the valley and the plain is now Megiddo National Park.

Armageddon

Truly this was the Son of God by Barbara Lady Brassey

‘Truly this was the Son of God’

The warnings of the Old Testament Prophets had a double thrust – invasion of Israel and the coming captivity in Babylon in their days. Also, a final invasion of armies – an end-time apocalypse - before Messiah's return, called ‘The Day of the LORD.’

Zechariah 14 says, ‘A Day of the LORD is coming when... I will gather all nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured... Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations’

Daniel 11 says, ‘The King of the North will storm out... with chariots, cavalry and ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood. He will invade the Beautiful Land’ [Israel]

Joel 2 says, ‘with noise of chariots, crackling fire, a mighty army ...charge like warriors, marching in line, plunge through defences ...the earth shakes, the sky trembles” [Tanks & Planes] and

‘The Day of the LORD is coming; a day of darkness... a mighty army comes; before them fire devours, behind flame blazes; before them; a Garden of Eden, behind...desert waste’ [Nuclear War] then

God pleads with His people: ‘Return to the LORD your God for He is gracious, compassionate... abounding in love’ then, God intervenes: ‘I will drive the northern army far from you; Be not afraid, be glad and rejoice; I will pour out my Spirit on all people; And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance’

World leaders recognise a cataclysmic world war is now possible, but those who love God are reassured over Armageddon. (Jesus Christ returning on a white horse, with Saints and Angels to stand with His people, inspired Narnia and Lord of the Rings)

Revelation

But they that wait on the Lord by Barbara Lady Brassey

'But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their

strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles'

Mankind has not evolved into godless peace and security, as the secular world might have hoped. Instead, the news is jumping off the pages of Revelation, the last book of the Bible. Revelation is not in strict date order, supports Old Testament prophets and predicts today’s “beheaded for the witness of Jesus and the Word of God” (Rev 20) also a day when we can only trade with a mark of the beast or Antichrist [chip implant]. It talks of 7 churches, seals, trumpets and God’s Throne Room. Some words are spiritual like devil, others literal like Antichrist, his earthly incarnation.

‘Rapture’ is described as believers in Jesus are taken up to heaven and ‘Tribulation’: 7 years of global distress and war, after the Jews return to Israel and Jerusalem. There is a harvest of souls trusting in Jesus, but Antichrist rises to control people by deceit and force. Then, ‘he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child’ is symbolic for trying to harm Israel through whom Jesus was born.

The Bible theme, proved and repeated throughout history, is God's covenant promise to Abraham and his descendants: "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed" (Genesis 12v3)

Armageddon is preceded by 7 Judgments, like plagues in Moses’ day: Awful Sores [bio-warfare]; Toxic [polluted] Seas and Springs; Scorching Sunlight [ozone loss]; Cold, Dark sun and blood moons [eclipses]; Euphrates River dried up [for invading armies moving to Armageddon]; Earthquakes; Lightning/Hailstones. What is the purpose of all this? It seems our rebelling against God, from the Garden of Eden onwards, ends with sinful men still refusing to repent.

At the end-time, ‘War of the Great Day of God, the Almighty’ rages over a huge area with Battles of Gog and Magog, Armageddon and Jerusalem where Jesus Christ will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, to defeat Antichrist.

Rosh, Gog and Magog

Baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist by Barbara Lady Brassey

‘Baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist’

Who will gather against Jerusalem from the north? Churches in the West predicted this to be Russian-led nations, like China, allied to 10 nations led by Antichrist (a European Union). But, 10 Central Asia, North Africa and Middle East people groups have a history with recurring Jihad in common, while the EU has over 20 nations with a poor history of co-operation. North of Israel, heirs of Persia (Iran), Assyria (Syria and Turkey), Babylon (Iraq) and Islamic State are commonly looking toward a new, governing Islamic entity.

Bible words: Rosh, Gog, Magog, Meshec and Tubal were said to be Russian cities of Moscow and Tobolsk, but Rosh also means chief. Gog and Magog can mean leadership from Meshec and Tubal, in Turkey. Ezekiel and Revelation do not reveal the identity of Gog - the enemy of God and His people. God gave Daniel a vision of us, travelling to and fro across the earth and huge increase of knowledge near the end-time, but Daniel was then told to seal the book and shut up understanding of the words until the end (Dan 12).

Russia's Orthodox Church has revived to over 160 million believers. Will they really come storming from the far north against Israel, the pilgrimage centre of their own Church? History can repeat itself and Russia drove back Mongol, Napoleonic and Nazi invasions. Russia paid a huge price for ‘Western Freedom’ with 500 years, fighting Islamic Jihad, including 10 wars against the Turkish Empire.

The same anti-God, genocide spirit keeps recurring. Islamic State arose 100 years after a brutal Turkish Jihad killed 3-4 million Christian Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians. Around 1920, it ended when Russia annexed what was left of Armenia. Armenia's Christian genocide inspired Hitler's Nazi holocaust. He publicly used religion, while planning to erase Christianity, as a 'flabby, meek invention of the Jew' and 'Bolshevik prototype.' Hitler admired 'warrior-like Islam.' Islamic State arose almost exactly 70 years after the Nazi holocaust that killed 6 million Jewish people.

Zechariah predicted: 'all the people round about' or 'all the people of the earth' or 'all that burden themselves with Jerusalem' or 'all the nations' will gather against Jerusalem. But, what if Russians decide their destiny is to stand with God's people, against those nations? Maybe, western churches might re-visit their attitude to Russia. Maybe, the Russian Church might re-visit blessing Jerusalem, Israel and Abraham's descendants.

Conclusion

The paintings are also inspired by a terrible prophecy from 2003, when US President George Bush Jr and UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair, sent their armies into Iraq (great river Euphrates) for regime change, removing President Sadam Hussein of Iraq - linked to revenge for the 9/11 attack on America, costing 3,000 innocent lives. Etched upon the minds of our generation is an hour (9am), and a day (11th), and a month (September), and a year (2001).

"I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four [evil] angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men"(Rev 9v13-15)

For that 2003 prophecy to be credible, wars would have exploded in places like Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Libya with turmoil spreading from places like Egypt, Afghanistan and Nigeria. That has happened in the last 12 years and continues. A prophetic message of these paintings is that it will not come out of Russia, but out of Islamic Jihad.

How will it all end? Armageddon is shared by: Orthodox; Catholics; Protestants; Seventh Day Adventists; Jehovah Witnesses; Church of the latter Day Saints; Christadelphians; Ahmadiyya; Bahá'í Faith and Scientology. Jewish belief refers to an 'End of Days Apocalypse'; Islamic belief refers to 'End Time battles' or 'Armageddon.'

Lady Barbara held the bullets at a Battle of Armageddon prior to Israel's re-birth in 1948. It is a prophetic picture for Armageddon at the end of time and Israel. Who attacked from the north? Islamic Jihad - not Russia, or China. (Russia liberated Treblinka, Ravensbrueck and Auschwitz death camps from the Nazis in World War II and was the first nation to recognise Israel) Instead of a threat, at such a time as this, Russia and China may be a great blessing.

As things get worse, the world will struggle to find answers. The Good News of the Armageddon Paintings is: ‘The Christian Gospel holds the Answer’ because Jesus Christ rose from the dead and He is coming back to earth, soon!

I was very excited to be able to inspect and assess this unique collection of paintings by Lady Brassey, who appears to have put her life and soul into this particular set of paintings, making them distinct from any others in existence.

The rarity of this collection of art is a compound of subject matter and having been painted by ‘The Hands That Held The Bullets’ at a particular place and a key time in history, which still contributes to news bulletins and newspaper headlines from the Middle East. The word, ‘Armageddon’ in the 21st Century carries extraordinary fascination and charisma to a significant portion of the world’s population that have an emotional and spiritual connection with the subject, particularly in the centres of religion worldwide. It captivates young people and the next generation.

‘Armageddon’ in most people’s minds, epitomises devastation but these paintings are different. They emphasise the solution to the problem, Jesus Christ, whether or not the solution is believed, or to be spiritual or literal. They focus upon a present and future connected to a biblical past and their value is undoubtedly more than just a function of the art world because of the powerful message they portray.

This unique collection of ten paintings and ten plaques is currently stored away, digitally coded and insured. The Custodians wish to sell the entire collection with the intention that they will be displayed in an internationally prominent venue where the public can see and experience for themselves, the story that lies behind these paintings.

The paintings are unique, being contemporary, although painted in a classical form but through their subjects are able to combine history and at the same time convey the message of hope for the future.

With all art, provenance is critical. The Custodians have detailed provenance of the Works of Art together with the incredible story of the artist. The connections with Palestine, World War II, Megiddo, Armageddon and the birth of Israel in 1948 are remarkable. As a qualified valuer of many years’ experience, I have never seen such a fascinating and powerful collection of art and for this reason in my opinion and in the right hands, they are likely to be priceless.
